The Lost Child is an interesting story written by Mulk Raj Anand. In this story, a child visits a spring fair with his parents. The place was crowded with people, and there were different kinds of stalls set up at the fair. The child was overjoyed when he saw the toys in the shops and pleaded with his parents to buy him a toy. But his father gave him a stern look. His mother diverted his attention to the mustard field, and soon he was lost in the sights of dragonflies, flowers, and birds before returning to his parents.

At the fair, he was tempted by sweets, a garland, colourful balloons, and the snake-charmer, but knowing his parents’ likely disapproval, he moved along. He then saw a merry-go-round and wanted to ride it. When he turned to ask his parents, they were gone. Realizing he was lost, he panicked and cried out for his mother and father.

Amidst the crowd, a kind man noticed the sobbing child and lifted him up. The man offered him sweets, balloons, and a ride on the swing, but the child refused everything and kept crying for his parents. What he longed for most was not the attractions of the fair but the comfort and presence of his parents.
