1. One day, at noon, a dish of Pullao was lying on the dinner table which was prepared by his grandmother. Toto’s mouth watered as he wanted to eat it. He did not miss the opportunity and stuffed himself with rice. He ran away with the dish of Pullao to eat it. He made his exit through the window.

2. Grandfather decided to take Toto along with him to Dehra Dun as there were many other pets that lived there. But Toto would not allow any of his companions to sleep at night. So, he made this decision.

3. Yes, Toto enjoyed taking a bath. It was a treat for him to bathe in the warm water given by grandmother. His love for taking a bath is evident in his act of getting into the kitchen kettle when the water was boiling for tea. His fondness for bathing almost leads him to being boiled alive.

4. Toto was a pretty, naughty, and clever monkey. He was always up to some mischief. He had damaged utensils, wallpaper, clothes, and also annoyed grandfather’s other pets. Toto enjoyed all his mischievous acts and thus was a nuisance in the house.

5. Grandfather was going to Saharanpur the next day. He was going there to collect his pension.

6. The narrator’s grandfather had to go to Saharanpur. So, he decided to put Toto in a big black canvas bag for the train journey. When they reached the station, Toto started jumping on the platform and everyone was surprised to see a bag jumping and moving about. When the ticket collector came, Toto promptly poked his head out of the bag. The ticket collector was petrified and urged grandfather to buy a ticket for Toto, but grandfather was reluctant to do so. Finally, the ticket collector had his way. Toto was classified as a dog and the grandfather had to buy a ticket for him.

7. The narrator’s grandfather was extremely fond of animals. He had a private zoo and did not mind spending money to purchase animals and birds, even though this involved annoying his wife. He had an appreciative eye toward animals, believing a tail added to anyone’s good looks. He was smart, devising ways of hiding Toto, and was annoyed with foolish behavior like the ticket collector calling Toto a dog. He was witty and sarcastic, asking the ticket collector to charge him even for a tortoise he had carried in his pocket. He had a good sense of humor.
